Our Week O’ Comedy begins with Ellen Degeneres. There are some great moments in this special called Here and Now! If you only have time to watch one clip, I reccomend Clip #4! HILARIOUS!
I quietly raise her arm above our heads and declare her: ”The Champion!”
How adorable is that. May you be inspired to do something adorable for your loved ones today. If you are all alone and lonesome, I’m sorry ;(, but may you be inspired to do something adorable for YOURSELF today.
Today I put Efficiency in Learning: Evidence-Based Guidelines to Manage Cognitive Load in my wishlist and thought, “I’m such a learning nerd.” I love to learn and I have a high tolerance for boring education and hard to read books because I’m really motivated when I want to know something. (Not that I think the above book will be boring, no offense meant, Ruth Clark.)
Since I was a little kid, I’ve thought of better ways to teach people who don’t have as high a tolerance for slogging though bog-like educational materials. So you would think that I would be in the correct field right now.
I don’t think I want to be a welder, but what I like about this video is that it points out that you don’t necessarily have to go through all the school people say you do to get to your goal. Also, I like the thought of making nearly $100k a year!
I have this friend who teaches communication, and his whole philosophy of life bugs me. I hate the communication method he teaches to people. I like him, he is a naturally engaging person, but when he lives what he teaches he is SO obnoxious, mostly by being self-involved and selfish.
As much as I don’t like what he teaches, its hard for me to articulate exactly what I don’t like about his approach, because I do think its good to take care of you own needs… but…
Today I got a workshop invite from him that pretty much sums it up. It’s titled Inviting you to Return to Infancy.
Inviting you to Return to Infancy?!
Yep. That says it in a nutshell. Infancy is a specialty item; it really only wears well on people under two feet.
I’ve discovered a new genre of you tube video: the riveting baby-spilled-the-milk genre. Like all good films, these sure to be classics have opened my mind to new ideas, like this epiphany:
Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.
Here’s the video and full text of Conan’s last speech on the Tonight Show. I encourage you to watch it even if you aren’t a fan. He is such a class act.
Text:
Ladies and Gentlemen, before we bring this rodeo to a close, I think a couple things should be said. There has been a lot of speculation in the press about what I legally can and can’t say about NBC.
Have you heard that people have a happiness set point and that you even if something wonderful happens, after your initial spike in happiness you’ll just settle back in to your pre-spike misery? (Or vice-versa for you happy people. :)
Well, guess what? You CAN reset your happiness set point. You can have a new happier normal by retraining your emotional brain.
