“You don’t know it,” I told my kitten, “but a great victory was won today.”

I just got back from voting! The sky is blue, there are giant, fluffy, white clouds hanging in the sky, the air is crisp, the sun is shining. We just got our country back. No, I don’t know who won. I don’t have any insider information, but whoever wins, they will be 100% better than the George Bush regime.

…we just
had a non-violent revolution…
I love America today.

If you don’t already know from my other articles and links, I’ll let you in on my polling booth secret: I voted for Obama! I actually felt choked up and near tears when I went to fill in the oval next to his name. I wasn’t expecting that. I was a Hillary Clinton supporter! BUT. I just voted for a man who is half African American. When I was a kid, I read about slavery and felt sick about what people who had lived in our country had done. I was deeply sorrowful about it for years afterwards.

When I think about it, I still get sad and disgusted by how people who are black are discriminated against currently. And now, I just got to vote for Barack Obama. Pretty cool

I also think McCain is a good man. I really, really, really, hope Barack wins, but either way, we just had a non-violent revolution. Either way, Guantanamo is closing down. Thank goodness for term limits!

I love America today. It’s nice to feel that way again given that I wanted to high tail it out of here many times during the last eight years. Peace!

Here is a San Bushwoman:

The San are most closely related to all of our common ancestors. I think it’s interesting because the San have features that look like a mix of the different kinds of people on earth to me. You can definitely see how Africans and Asians came from the San.

Why do I like the San so much? Well, they are pretty, but that’s not it, there are a lot of pretty peoples in the world. They are just so sweet. Have you seen The Gods Must Be Crazy? (I like the second one best.) I know it’s just a very silly movie, but I think it represents their true sweet culture. Elizabeth Marshall Thomas calls them “the harmless people.”

Also, they thought God was the God of the antelope and thus working against them when they hunted! How humble is that? They didn’t even think they were the primary creatures on earth. I LOVE THE SAN.

Check out the beginning of the first The Gods Must be Crazy movie which is I admit where I’ve gotten a lot of my information about the San. ;)

The San need help. They don’t really have a country. I wish I knew of a charity that helped them. Anyone know how we can help the San?

Read a little more about the San and see where I nabbed the picture in this post from at the new National Genographic Blog.

British Columbia rocks. On the first day of our trip, we landed in adless Vancouver, as previously noted and then, following some crazy plan of my mother’s, we spent the next 6 plus hours in transit. We took three bus rides and a ferry to our hotel on Vancouver Island where we immediately fell asleep. The ferry ride was beautiful though, and I tried to keep a pleasant attitude towards her as this was the beginning of our TWO WEEKS together. (”Family vacation,” “two weeks” I wonder that the two phrases together did not give me a single moments pause before the trip started.)

Vancouver Island reminded me of Denmark because of all the people riding the bus, riding their bikes, and wearing rain gear. I miss bike paths.

Here are some of the pictures I took on our ferry ride back to Vancouver to board the cruise:

Finally a vista: what I had been longing for in my little urban life.

I was sick as a dog on the second day of our trip, but hey, look at the view!

Pulling into the dock.
