I don’t think I want to be a welder, but what I like about this video is that it points out that you don’t necessarily have to go through all the school people say you do to get to your goal. Also, I like the thought of making nearly $100k a year!
Angela, thanks for the reality check. I don’t know where people make a 100k a year welding. I don’t know anything about welding, so maybe it isn’t true. On the other hand, I know in my field that there is a WIDE range of pay depending on the job, so maybe there are 100k a yr welding jobs. hmm… Any welders out there making 100k who want to clue us in?
I don’t know about welders, I do know about patent secretaries, who can easily be making 100k after a few years at a large firm. That’s the most lucrative gig I know about that doesn’t require a college diploma, though it requires a very special sort of mind.
Welders make a lot of money in situations where a lot of money is at stake, such as nuclear, chemical or petroleum facilities. One bad weld in a nuclear power plant can cost millions of dollars.
Where do you make 100k? In my town, welders are making 14 bucks an hour tops.

Of course if you want to really make money, try underwater welding. Check out http://www.aws.org/w/a/wj/2003/09/048/index.html
